With 15 points in a win over first place Union, Serg led the Tigers in a loser-out game with 21 points against Skyview. Now we get to see if the Tigers can make a run for the state tournament. Other Players Receiving Votes: Jordan Chatman (Union) - the BYU-bound senior finished the regular season with a strong effort. Chatman scored 25 points and had 10 rebounds after coming back from a one-game suspension. Player of the Week (Jan. 22-Jan. 28): Zach Torson - Mountain View Torson receives the award for the second time and picked a great week to shine. After his 21 points helped Mountain View knock off first ranked River, Torson ended the week with a 29 point effort against Hudson's Bay. The Thunder are now tied for first in the 3A GSHL. Other Players Receiving Votes: Trent Johnson (Camas) - his 22 points against the Falcons wasn't quite enough for the Papermakers to make major progress in the 3A GSHL race. Spencer Klug (Hockinson) - the sixth man for Hockinson has had some big games lately and he's picking up the slack for the offensive-challenged Hawks. His three point shooting kept Hockinson in the game vs. league leader Mark Morris. Player of the Week (Jan. 15-Jan. 21): Caleb Dressler - Evergreen The Plainsmen got back on track this week with a big win over top ranked Union on Monday night. Dressler was limited to only 8 points but controlled the paint with 9 rebounds. After edging the Titans out, Dressler led the way with 22 points in a win over the red-hot Skyview Storm. Other Players Receiving Votes: Nathan Cherzan (Prairie) - Cherzan has become one of the most underrated players in SW Washington. He continues to put points on the board and control the boards for the Falcons. On Saturday night, he broke the school record for most offensive charges taken in a season (19). Carly Holboke (Mountain View) - People are finally starting to notice that the Prairie girls aren't the only ones with talent players. Holboke finished the week with 24 points against Fort Vancouver. Click here to read Paul Valencia's article earlier this week. Player of the Week (Jan. 2-Jan. 7): Timmy Hergert - Heritage Though the Timberwolves have struggled to find the win column throughout the season, Hergert has been playing exceptionally well. This week he paced the T-Wolves with 35 points against top ranked Union. A late run in the fourth quarter secured the win for the Titans, but Hergert nearly led Heritage to a big upset. Other Players Receiving Votes: Austin Bonds (Skyview) - The Storm knocked off two quality opponents in the 4A League this week with wins over Evergreen and Battle Ground. Many people assumed Skyview would remain at the bottom of the league, but a new system led by Bonds has the Storm in a good shape throughout the first part of league play. Bonds finished with 18 points against Battle Ground. Player of the Week (Dec. 12-Dec. 17): Quinton Whitfield - Fort Vancouver Following a week where he had a near double-double vs. RA Long and 18 points in a win vs. Heritage, Quinton Whitfield powered the Trappers to a big league victory over Camas. Whitfield went 9 for 9 from the field, led the Trappers with 23 points and seven rebounds. His inside presence will keep Fort competitive this year and give them a chance to make the playoffs. Other Players Receiving Votes: Christian Bukant (King's Way) - as the Knights improved to 6-0 this week, Bukant has continued to be a consistent contributor. He scored 20 points in a win over Three Rivers and 17 points in a blow out over Trout Lake. Player of the Week (Dec. 5-Dec. 10): Zach Torson - Mountain View He began the week with 22 points in a winning effort against a traveling team from Australia and finished even stronger against top ranked Union. Torson led the Thunder with 23 points in a blowout victory over the Titans who were considered by many to be the best team in SW Washington. Torson was an all-league player last year and has gotten off to a strong start in his senior campaign. Other Players Receiving Votes: Nathan Cherzan (Prairie) - continues to be a much-improved player for the Falcons this season. His 17 points and 12 rebounds helped Prairie knock off Tumwater. Jocelyn Adams (Skyview) - Stepping up with 15 points and 12 rebounds in the huge win against #1 ranked Prairie set the bar high for Adams and the Skyview Storm. Player of the Week (Nov. 28-Dec. 3): Isaiah Smith - Columbia River While leading the Chieftains to two lopsided victories this week, Isaiah Smith was able to get his junior season off to a strong start. He scored 24 points against Hockinson and followed that with a 25 point effort against Skyview. Smith's ability to score down low, block shots, rebound, and get the crowd involved with power dunks makes him a player to watch this year in the Greater St. Helen's League. Other Players Receiving Votes: Jordan Chatman (Union) - 34 points, including seven three pointers against Federal Way as the Titans prepare to compete for a league title. Caleb Dressler (Evergreen) - 28 points and 20 rebounds vs. Federal Way followed by 17 points and 12 rebounds vs. Mountain View. Dressler is a load in the paint. |
